Due to the compressed nature of these files within the JAR files, this presents little, if any, danger of possible infection to any system, much less an OS/2 system. Because the offending files are compressed in the JAR file and are built on the Win-32 platform, there is no chance that the virus would spread to an OS/2 based system. The virus could conceivably be transmitted if an explicit attempt was made to manually unpack the JAR files and run the component executables on a Win-32 system.

We immediately removed the UNx2206 TCP/IP 4.3x Fix Packs from availability on 10/16/2002 as a precaution when we detected a potential problem with two JAR files.

While these builds were scanned for viruses immediately prior to release, the OS/2 version of the scanning utility was not capable of recognizing virus signatures in certain compressed files, such as JAR files. We have replaced the software to correct that problem. The system used to build these Fix Packs has been cleaned and corrupted JAR files have been deleted. There is an ongoing research to determine where in the build process these files were packaged into the JAR files; they are not part of our nominal build process.

We have rebuilt the Fix Pack and replaced the problem JAR files. The new version of UN02206 for US English was uploaded on 10/25/2002. The German version of UNx2206 will be available before the end of November.

You must remove any versions of UNx2206 downloaded before 10/16/2002 before installing the updated package available on Software Choice.

Additional information for IBM Networks Primary Logon Client 4.5 for Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP Professional

Known Problems and Limitations for this Release

The following items are in addition to the readme.1st file packaged with the IBM® Networks Primary Logon Client 4.5 for Windows NT® 4.0, Windows® 2000 Professional, and Windows XP Professional, hereafter referred to as the "IBM Networks Client."

Error occurs while naming a directory

Some DBCS Unicode code points do not have an ASCII-character equivalent. If such a character is encountered as part of a directory name during installation, an error occurs and installation fails.

Rename the directory name using a DBCS character that does have an ASCII equivalent that is valid when naming directories.

Considerations for Finnish, Norwegian, and Danish languages

An Active Directory Client Extension is not available in Microsoft® Windows NT 4.0. for Finnish, Norwegian, and Danish languages. Because of this limitation, this release of the IBM Networks Client should not be used for Windows NT clients for Finnish, Norwegian, and Danish languages. Windows NT users requiring IBM Networks Client 4.4 must get it from their IBM Software Choice periodic CD.

Logon support across subnets

IBM Networks Client 4.4 does not support logon across subnets. If you are using Windows NT 4.0 clients in one of the languages that does not have support for Active Directory Client Extensions and you need the logon across subnets function, you must upgrade the clients to either Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP Professional and then install IBM Networks Client 4.5.

Logon dialog panel inactivity timeout

If the Logon dialog panel is being displayed and there is no mouse or keyboard activity for approximately 2 minutes, the Logon panel times out and is redisplayed with the userid and domain name from the last successful logon.

Logon error consideration

On occasion, following the resolution of a "domain not available" error condition, when the logon is attempted again, the same error message might be immediately displayed again. If this occurs and the cause of the original error has been corrected, clear out the domain name on the Logon panel and reenter it. This should allow the logon to proceed normally.

Initial attempt to Change Password returns error but is successful

When you initially select Change Password on the Logon panel and supply the old and new password information, the following error message displays:

Not able to change password because of bad spelling or caps-lock

Click OK, cancel the Change Password dialog box, then select Logoff to log off.

You can use the new password you specified to log on even though you received the error message.

This logon behavior continues until you issue a Change Password on a null password. When a null password is changed, the "Password changed" dialog displays and subsequent password changes proceed without the error dialog appearing.

Change Password request returns an error

If you attempt to change the password from the Logon panel when logged on to the OS/2® domain that is designated as the secondary authentication domain, you will receive an error message indicating that the password change failed. You can ignore this message as the password was changed on the OS/2 domain controller.

Failure to locate the home directory

After logging on to an OS/2 server, which then assigns your home directory, the NET USE * /home command fails to locate the home directory.

A drive ID is automatically assigned to the home directory at logon. To view the current drive assignments for network drives, use the NET USE command or open the "My Computer" folder.

Roaming profile warning messages

When a Windows 2000 client logs on to an OS/2 domain for the first time as a roaming user (for example, the user ID is not defined on the Windows 2000 client) and is automatically assigned a home directory, the client receives two warning messages.

The first message indicates that "Windows cannot locate the roaming profiles". The second message indicates that "Windows cannot find the local profiles". The logon continues and the desktop displays.

During the first logon, the user's configuration is adjusted so that the messages do not occur on subsequent logons. The user should immediately log off and then log on again.

Any Desktop changes made during the first logon are lost. After the first logon and logoff sequence, Desktop changes (if not restricted by the Policy file) are saved to a default profile at logoff and presented at all subsequent logons.

Icon animation in the Progress Indicator dialog

Unlike the other operating systems supported by IBM Networks Client 4.5, on a Windows XP Professional system, after you enter text in the Logon panel or select the Discovery function, the icon image in the Progress Indicator dialog is static and not animated.

The Logon or Discovery function however runs successfully to completion.

Support for IBM Distributed Computing Environment

Either of the following additional components are a prerequisite for Distributed Computing Environment (DCE) authentication from the IBM Networks Client:

New DUMP file for LVM systems with LBA enabled drives

On March 4, 2002 IBM OS/2 Fix Distribution released a fix for systems using LVM and have LBA enabled drivers (usually one with greater than 8.3 GB physical size).

This APAR, PJ28457, fixes the problem with os2dump overwriting partitions on LBA-enabled systems. It is suggested that all users apply this fix.

There is a README file with install details in the DMP0304.ZIP (click on this link to get fix) file.

Special Fix Pack for Convenience Package 2 and Pentium 4 systems with more than 512 MB's of memory

On Feb. 25, 2002 IBM OS/2 Fix Distribution released special set of fixes for Convenience Package 2 and users of Pentium 4 systems with more than 512 MB's.

On some of these systems, you may not either be able to install to, or if already installed to, not be able to have the system boot after adding memory above 512 MB's.

It is suggested that all users of Convenience Package 2 apply this Fix Pack.

NOTE : Both of the above versions are only available via a Software Choice Subscription User ID and Password.

Virus in UN02206 and UNG2206 corrected

We have been investigating a potential problem regarding the content of two TCP/IP Fix Packs for OS/2. The packages affected are Fix Packs UN02206 and UNG2206 downloaded prior to 10/16/2002. You may detect the following virus when you run a virus detection program against these earlier versions of UNx2206: W32.Nimda.enc. The two files that may contain embedded eml files and sample.exe are DADMRES.JAR and DDNSSGUI.JAR. This only affects UN02206 and UNG2206.

Latest JFS, Trap Dump, and Kernels Released

2001/10/31 - Replaced JFS1026.ZIP, added as-is diagnostic programs from old zip files.

On Oct. 26, 2001 IBM OS/2 Fix Distribution released updated files for the various kernels and the latest JFS. They contain fixes since xr_e002/xr_m015/mcp/acp:

New TrapDump

File: DF1026.ZIP

SES drivers, replaces existing SESDD32.SYS

File: SES1026.ZIP

File versions :

Latest JFS

JFS1026.ZIP

Important note: If you use the OS/2 SES facility, you need a new sesdd32.sys dated April 2001 or later to use this kernel. Also, a matching dump formatter (df_ret.exe), provided separately, is required, if you want to analyze a dump from this kernel. Finally, note that os2ldr is only required for the >64mb memory detection mentioned below.

New function:

  1. Support for >64m memory using int15 func e820. Note, this support is enabled ONLY for Intel Pentium Pro or later, or non-Intel Pentium-class machines. This is done in an effort to prevent problems on older PCs.
  2. The presence of \os2\boot\os2norev.$$$ suppresses the display of internal revision during boot.
  3. Adding "EARLYMEMINIT=TRUE" to config.sys will allow device drivers, etc., access to the memory above 16mb early in boot. Previously, this was only available after DD and IFS init was completed. This has various implications when enabled:
    a) AHA154X.ADD may do bad things to your system. Don't even ask.
    b) There may be some settings of HPFS386 cache that are incompatible.
  4. Trap messages will now give the module name instead of the device name.
For example, "Exception in module: CLOCK01" instead of "Exception in Device Driver: CLOCK$".
***change from 0220/0223: Traps in 32 bit code now show the modname, too
  5. Systems with a 486SX chip running FP15 will function correctly. Note, they will NOT work with ACP or (necessarily) on MCP.
  6. SESDD32 will now work correctly (I hope) for both uni and smp
  7. All process dumps should now be considerably faster. paddr(all) dumps should take about 40% less time and others around 80-90% less time.
  8. EXE names will now also be displayed in alt-f2/alt-f3 processing (note that CMD file names, e.g. MPTSTART, will NOT be displayed, only cmd.exe)
  9. alt-f4 is like alt-f2 plus it pauses after displaying each names (does not pause after BASEDEV= or PSD=) and, by pressing F1, allows you to skip loading/running the file displayed. Alt-f5 is like alt-f4+alt-f1.
  10. The dump formatter (in dfxxx.zip) should be faster and also work on dumps >= 2gb, which was not formerly possible.
  11. If you also install the enclosed clock01.sys to \os2\boot, you can add "CLOCKSCALE=x" to config.sys. The choices for x are 1 (the default, which is the old behavior), 2, and 4. The number represents a scale factor for the frequency of clock ticks. The theory is that CLOCKSCALE=4 will speed up some apps (maybe Netscape and/or Java).

Bug Fixes:

Fixes from earlier "dated" kernels:

  1. Fixed a trap 000d in w_OpenCreate (140:4dfd or so in uni/w4 krnls, don't have regs for SMP). This was a post mcp/acp regression
  2. Fixed strange loader i/o problems specific to the 0111 kernel.
  3. Fixed a bootup sys31xx problem specific to the 0123 kernel.
  4. Fixed a problem that was (I think) specific to Janauary uni & W4 kernels which resulted in odd ring 3 (maybe ring 0?) traps and hangs
  5. Fixed some trap and other peculiar problems specific to the 0206 kernel. Those were the result of a build problem.
  6. Fixed some trap and other problems specific to the 0220/0223 kernels
  7. Fixed a regression from JR15038 that caused a trap in CWBBS.IFS and PCSFLR0.IFS (AS/400 shared folders access).
  8. Fixed a regression in the 0330 kernel that messed up getting procdumps
  9. Fixed a regression in the 0416 kernel that caused some hangs and also affected APM
  10. Fixed a regression in the 0502 kernel that prevented booting altogether or caused other very bad problems.
  11. Fixed a regression in the 0502/0503 kernels that caused some odd trap d/e's in the scheduling code
  12. Don't use the 0601 kernels.
  13. Don't use the 0615 kernels, either. There seems to have been some kind of build problem, there.
  14. Removed the int 3's I'd accidentally left in some EA code in 0727 build
  15. The 0730-0801 kernels all had problems due to various attempts to fix PJ28078. Sorry about that!
  16. 10/16: the 1015 os2ldr was broken on some CPUs

Fixes to problems that exist in released code:

  1. JR15494: Delayed response of Ctrl-C or Ctrl-S (pause) in os/2 windows
  2. JR15405: (probably) DosQueryAsyncTimer fails on timecritical thread after mscount rolls over after 49.7 days of uptime
  3. JR15030: TRAPDUMP QUERY doesn't show PD (needs a new trapdump.exe, too)
  4. JR13335: Some VDMs won't run, complaining of too-long command lines
  5. JR15194: XCOPY fails with SYS1186 or SYS1192 on (at least) MO drives
  6. JR15038: Trap 8 in h_DeviceHelpDM running an app from a tcpbeui drive
  7. JR15229: Files left open after ERROR_TOO_MANY_OPEN_FILES returned to app
  8. PJ27700: SMP systems may get a trap 000e in _tkStopScan, particularly during a procdump operation.
  9. PJ27676: Causes hangs on some systems running UNI or W4 kernels
  10. PJ27554: Hang or (on allstrict) trap 3 on SMP (only) during beeps
  11. PJ27678: SMP kernels could not be RIPL-booted. As part of this, there is a new config.sys parameter I13PAGES= available. Adding I13PAGES=1 to config.sys (note, no SET) reduces the memory usage of the mini VDM processes used by ibm1s506.add and the GRADD drivers. This becomes important in RIPL-boot situations. It may be helpful for UNI RIPL boot, as well.
  12. PJ27677: SMP systems hang with multiple threads of same process entering a critical section (affects ADSM client)
  13. PJ27757: Trap 000e running Theseus/4 (note, theseus4.exe may still end up with a sys3175, but at least the system doesn't crash).
  14. PJ27736: Trap in _PLD_WriteReturnCode
  15. PJ27777: Set BEGINLIBPATH= (in config.sys ONLY) may be ignored. Also, it would lead to a bogus copy of BEGINLIBPATH= in the environment.
  16. PJ27906: Trap 000e in pvwRegKrnlInstance running SPM/2 (may also cause unknown odd behavior in other performance monitors).
  17. PJ27919: Complete system hang running some apps (same as JR12136)
  18. PJ27544: Panic in SwitchNPX
  19. PJ27972: trap 000e in _SecExecPost (the actual fix is in ses0604 or later)
  20. PJ27952: DosFindFirst returns incorrect returncode for various bufsizes when querying extended attributes
  21. PJ28005: ProcDump command returns error code 6 (and the procdump is invalid)
  22. PJ28013: read of >2k from named pipe on a timecritical thread can cause loss of pipe data or session hang
  23. PJ28027: trap in KMQueryClientRegister reallocating a trace buffer
  24. PJ28068: trap 000e in clock$ where sslim is ffffffff (during JFS activity)
  25. PJ28076: "trapdump [PD|NOPD]" disables the procdump.exe command. Also, it causes a trap 000e if you initiate a dump with ctrl-alt-f10-f10 (or numlock-numlock).
  26. PJ28077: Some VPM apps will refuse to initialize
  27. PJ28078: Various traps with floppy disk hard errors when UDF is loaded
  28. JR13789: DRIVES does not reflect change in directory entries
  29. PJ28102: Performance tracing slow on Pentium 4 CPUs (this is the only APAR listed here fixed in os2ldr)
  30. PJ28199 SES QUERYFILEINFO buffer pointer always -1
  31. PJ28207 SES callgate hooks don't work
  32. PJ28215 Added HMA flag to DevHelp_GlobalToProcess. The new flag 20h (in EAX for the call to the DevHelp) allows a device driver to map global memory to a process' high private arena.
  33. PJ264136 Trap 000e in the kernel when theseus gets system working set. Also fixed a theseus problem on systems with HPFS386.

See README in the zip for Install Instructions.

Disclaimer: These interim fixes will be supported by IBM until the next fixpack is available or until superceded by a newer interim fix. At the discretion of IBM, you may be required to revert to GA (i.e. MCP/ACP/fixpack) code to pursue specific support issues.

Fix Pack 13 Update

On April 25, 2000, IBM OS/2 Fix Distribution re-released Fix Pack 13 for OS/2 Warp 4. At that time, we intended to provide update fixes that could be applied to an existing original FP 13 installed system so that you wouldn't need to re-install (and download) the re-released FP.

IBM still will release these fixes when they are available. Still, IBM understands the need for people to upgrade a system in one pass and not have to worry about checking back for later fixes. To accomplish this, IBM will be releasing FP 14 within a very short time period. This FP will contain all of the fixes posted since the re-release of FP 13 and not included in it.

Please see Fix Pack 13 re-released as well as this news item has been changed to reflect the present state of FP 13 and fixes that will be provided.
