Revision levels, CSD levels and version numbers

Summary

This page summarises the revision levels, CSD levels and version numbers for various system components, for various releases of OS/2. These are useful (for example) if one wants to know if a given CSD will need to be applied to a particular release; as such, it is particularly useful in the case of Convenience Packs.

Note that revision levels may vary (and may not be documented here) for some NLV releases. NLV releases have CSD levels which replace the underscore with a single letter.

Kernel revision levels

Note that, although different systems may have the same basic revision level, there are actually three types of kernel, distinguished by a suffix displayed as part of the revision number shown on the boot logo screen. If the kernel revision is not displayed at boot time, the kernel is an early Warp 4 (or earlier) one; in this case, use the VER /R command to display the revision number. Note that it is possible to suppress the display of the kernel revision on later kernels, by creating a file named OS2NOREV.$$$ in the root directory of the boot drive; this should be borne in mind when using the above information. The possible suffixes are:

Notes

  1. Certain NLV releases of this level may have a kernel revision of 14.089; this is because of a late fix to a bug affecting only those releases. Some refreshed releases may also have this kernel revision.
  2. CSD level XR_M002 was never released publicly. If anyone knows the kernel revision level, please email it to the address at the bottom of this page.
  3. Warp 3 Connect GA was released at CSD level XR_W003.
  4. This CSD level officially applies only to Warp Server and Warp Server SMP versions based on Warp 3.

Notes

  1. The Netscape 4.61 revision may be found by typing the string about: in the URL entry field, and looking in the title bar. Alternatively, use the Help -> About menu items
  2. The IBM Web Browser version and revision may be found by typing the string about: in the URL entry field, and viewing the resulting page. Alternatively, use the Help -> About menu items. Before installation, the build date (200.......) may be obtained by inspecting the file EPFIBR.PKG in the install kit; prefix the number in the DATE lines with 20 to generate the complete date string.
  3. The Flash plugin version and revision may be found by using the browser's Help -> About menu items.
  4. The Java 1.1.8 revision is obtained by typing java -version or java -fullversion at an OS/2 command prompt. This assumes that Java 1.1.8 is the default Java version; if it isn't, ensure that the \JAVA11\BIN (or equivalent) directory is current before issuing the above commands.
  5. The Java 1.3 revision is obtained by typing java -version or java -fullversion at an OS/2 command prompt. This assumes that Java 1.3 is the default Java version; if it isn't, ensure that the \JAVA13\BIN (or equivalent) directory is current before issuing the above commands.
