OSWPCRLK - CHKDSK REPORTING CROSSLINKED FILES 10/19/94 ================================================================ CHKDSK REPORTING CROSSLINKED FILES ================================================================ Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures ---------------------------------------------------------------- SYMPTOM: Running CHKDSK from diskette or when starting the system reports crosslinked files. RESOLUTION: The EA DATA. SF file records the location of files on the hard disk by their extended attributes. Crosslinked files occur when two files are trying to claim the same extended attribute. DETAILS OF RESOLUTION: 1. Insert the OS/2 Installation Diskette in Drive A: and press Ctrl+Alt+Del. 2. When prompted, remove Installation Diskette and insert Diskette 1. 3. Press Enter. 4. When the Welcome screen appears, press Esc to display the command prompt, A:. 5. At the A prompt type X: and press Enter. X is the partition you will create a temporary directory on. 6. Type MD TEMP and press Enter. 7. Type CD TEMP and press Enter. 8. Copy all the crosslinked files into the new TEMP directory. Type: COPY X:\DIR\FILENAME.EXT and press Enter. X is the drive letter that contains the crosslinked files. 9. Delete the original files, not the copies you just made. 10. Insert Install Diskette 2 in Drive A. 11. Type CHKDSK X: /F and press Enter. 12. Copy the files back to their original location. 13. Delete all the files in the X:\TEMP directory. 14. Type CD.. and press Enter. 15.
