UnInstall Intructions Question: Trying to install OD v2, the install asks me for my Serial Number but it is not accepting it. Help? Answer: Can you say Ooops! A Glitch in the manufacturing process caused the serial number on some of the registration cards to be misprinted; the last digit did not get printed. During the installation process you will be prompted for your serial number. You will need to enter the proper number. To do so, add the number 9 to the end of your serial number for proper installation. ie: current number is tsxx-xxxx-xxxxx should be in the form of tsxx-xxxx-xxxxx9. When you are done the last set of digits should have 6 digits instead of 5 digits. Please write the change down in your manual and on your registration card for future reference. Question: I am installing Object Desktop v2.0 and I received an EPFIE187 Error, cannot exit exec routine? What should I do? Possible reason: 1) The installation program cannot find its supported files. 2) Your system maybe having difficulties registering the necessary classes for Object Advisor. (Most likely Cause) Answer: 1) Make sure that you have a .; as an entry in your CONFIG.SYS in your PATH & LIBPATH lines. And then try reinstall again. Example: SET PATH=.;C:\OS2;..........C:\OBJDESK; (Note: Some programs like Process Commander and Java v1.1x may not like the period being in the beginning of the path as in this example. You may put the period in at the end if necessary.) 2) Install Object Desktop 2.0 withouth installing the Object Advisor component. After a completed installation, reboot the system and re run the insall utility from the CD-Rom. Chose the 'install additional components' option and then select to install the Object Advisor. Installation should complete normally. NOTE: If your installation has failed in your current session and you had selected the option from the installer to remove the currently installed files you should REBOOT before installing OD 2.0. The reason is that certain files are deferred to be removed on the next reboot. If you were to install OD 2.0 now and reboot, some files would get deleted that would be required for OD to work properly. Question: I just installed OD v2, rebooted, and my system is not completing the reboot process. Possible reason: You could be having a conflict with another program like CandyBarz. Answer: To first get our system to boot to a desktop, you can boot to a command prompt via Alt-F1. At the command prompt rename the directory in which you installed Object Desktop to, ie: rename objdesk objtemp Then reboot your system. This will disable Object Desktop and will allow your system to boot normally. (To reenable Object Desktop, simply rename the directory name back to its original name and reboot.) At this time it is suggested that you disable CandyBarz and reboot your system. Unfortunately this problem does not happen on all systems that use CandyBarz and OD so we are not exactly sure what the problem is at this time. Question: UnInstall Instructions Answer: The install program contains an uninstall feature, which can be used to remove the software from your system. Before running the uninstall process, ensure that the Control Center and Tab LaunchPad have been closed, and you have disabled the Task Manager and Keyboard LaunchPad features from the Master Setup Task Manager properties. Important! Keep the Object Desktop folder open while the uninstall is performed. The Workplace Shell may attempt to recover some resources while the uninstall progresses, and this causes some systems to hang. If you find the uninstall procedure fails with a SYS3175 error, hangs, or incompletely removes the software from your system, please reboot your computer and retry the uninstall process after your system restarts. If there is no Install Utility icon available, run the command "EPFINSTS" from an OS/2 command line in the Object Desktop installation directory. If uninstall leaves an empty Object Desktop folder on your desktop after processing, you may remove it after you restart your system. ¸ 1998-2000 by Stardock Systems, Inc. Last modified on 02.22.00
