Object Desktop --- Known Problems --- Misc Problems After installing OD v2 my desktop has been unstable and frequently hanging. Why did I receive the Object Desktop Professional Manual and not a new one for OD v2? Question: After installing OD v2 my desktop has been unstable and frequently hanging. Possible reason: 1) The installation of ODv2 over ODv1.x did not take properly. 2) An interaction problem between DragText and OD's Toolbar. Answer: 1) We have had a few cases where it appears that ODv2 did not properly install over OD v1.x. It is recommended that you completely uninstall ODv2, reboot, then reinstall ODv2. (Note: You may want to save your OD Customizations before uninstalling. To do this use Object Package to backup your Object Desktop Folder. For more details on this refer to your Users Guide.) 2) It appears that there is an interaction problem between DragText and Object Desktop if you have OD's Folder Toolbar's turned on. The best solution is to change the order sequence in which DragText starts at bootup time. Remove DragText from your startup folder and create/edit the startup.cmd file on your boot drive to start DragText from the startup.cmd file. Question: Why did I receive the Object Desktop Professional Manual and not a new one for OD v2? Answer: Given the current size of the OS/2 Market, and the fact that we already had a sizable inventory of Object Desktop Professoinal Manuals it did not make good business sense for us to print a brand new manual when the content of the manuals is still 95% the same. But we did make sure that we provided an updated manually electronically. If you chose to install the Documents component during the install of ODv2 then the file objduser.pdf was copied to your hard drive. This is the updated User Guide for Object Desktop v2 which can easily be read using Adobe's Acrobat Reader. ¸ 1998-2000 by Stardock Systems, Inc. All rights reserved. Last modified on 02.22.00
