Object Archive Compression Plug-in Pak
(c) 1996 Stardock Systems Incorporated
Welcome!
Stardock Systems Incorporated has provided the Object Archive
Compression Plug-in Pak to enhance the archive capabilities of
Object Desktop and Object Desktop Professional. Using the power of
the OS/2 Workplace Shell, you can now access more archive formats
than ever before. Archive files are treated just like desktop
folders!
Important: Do not attempt to install the Object Archive Compression
Plug-in Pak to any version of Object Desktop or Object
Desktop Professional prior to version 1.5.2. This
includes versions 1.5.1, 1.5.0, or 1.0 with or without a
FixKit applied. Versions prior to 1.5.2 do not have
support for archive plug-ins.
To determine which version of software you are currently
running, choose "Help->About Object Desktop..." from the
Desktop popup menu.

The following are limitations of the archiver support in this
release:
1. Tar cannot extract a file contained in a subdirectory
without the full path to that file. Subdirectories are
always re-created. A warning is issued when this is done.
2. Gzip cannot create a .gz file on a FAT file system properly.
By the gzip documentation, it seems as if a .TGZ file
is to be created in this case. It seems the person
responsible for the port only tested on HPFS.
These limitations may change in the future, so watch for new
releases of the Compression Plug-in Pak.
