Release 1.2
Release Notes

Contents

Welcome to the Release 1.2 of IBM's Component Broker products.

The Component Broker products, comprised of the Component Broker Connector (CBConnector) and the Component Broker Toolkit (CBToolkit), provide an environment for developing and deploying distributed applications using transactional objects, which exploit existing systems and data. This release includes the following function:

With this release, you can write applications using the Component Broker programming model, test them in a unit test environment, and deploy them in a run-time server environment.

Prerequisites

The Quick Beginnings book and the Late Breaking News memo are included in the package in printed form. All other documentation and help text is provided in HTML 3.2 and printed form. An HTML 3.2-capable browser is required for the .html and .htm files that comprise the documentation and help text. Netscape Navigator 3.0 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 both support HTML 3.2. If you configured Netscape Navigator 3.0 to use SOCKS servers, you will notice a delay in opening help and documents when your system is disconnected from the network.

The Component Broker products may be installed in several different ways, depending upon the role of the individual system in the entire network. There is a development configuration, a run-time configuration for servers, and three client configurations (C++, ActiveX, and Java). Each configuration has different requirements regarding prerequisite software, which are provided below.
