UDF File System - Overview
|
OS/2(R) Warp Server for e-business
now provides expanded media exchange
capability and support for DVD (Digital Video Disc) drives with its
implementation of the UDF (Universal Disk Format) 1.50 file system.
The UDF file system specification, defined by the Optical Storage
Technology Association (OSTA), is the widely-accepted standard to which
DVD devices read/write data. Use of these technologies
significantly increases your ability to access and store large amounts
of information. For example,
a single layer of a DVD-ROM can generally store about seven times more
data than a CD-ROM.
Highlights of UDF
-
Large capacity - - UDF can store more data and support a larger number
of files than current file systems.
-
Support for file names up to 254 bytes (253 8-bit or 126 16-bit Unicode characters).
-
Maximum file size is equal to the size of the volume.
-
Unlimited directory depth - - UDF does not impose any limitation on the depth of a
directory structure.
-
Compatibility with existing CD-ROM formats.
-
Support for DVD-ROM (read-only) and DVD-RAM (rewritable) media.
-
Common and consistent interface to OS/2 file system functions, CHKDSK and FORMAT.
-
