OS/2(R) Warp Server for e-business
expands its support for file systems and media by introducing support
for an installable Universal Disk Format (UDF) file system. The UDF file
system enables data to be read and written "from and to" DVD (Digital Video
Disc) devices. Coupled with the support for the ISO 9660 standard, which
is the CD-ROM file system standard, this UDF implementation also enables
DVD drives to read data from CD-ROMs. This capability is referred to as
"compatibility mode."
The most notable advantage of DVD technology is the ability to provide
high-capacity information storage and retrieval.
With the UDF file system, file sizes greater than 2GB are supported,
making it ideally suited for backing up large amounts of data. Because
UDF is the accepted standard, data interchange across multiple computer
platforms is possible.
