This readme file contains information on how to install the Reveal SC500 FX Wave or SC400r4G FM synthesis sound cards on OS/2 Warp. System Requirements *** IMPORTANT *** ------------------ Before you install the Reveal SC500 FX Wave or SC400r4G, make sure that you have first installed OS/2 WARP Version 3. You must also insure you have removed any previous sound board support through the selective install option in System Setup. Reveal SC500 FX Wave or SC400r4G Installation Procedure for OS/2 WARP ---------------------------------------------------------------------- To install device support, open an OS/2 window or full screen session and insert the Reveal SC500 FX Wave or SC400r4G Support diskette for OS/2 diskette in drive A:. 1.)Type MINSTALL from the source drive "A:". 2.)Once in the Multimedia installation program, select Source Drive A: (or whichever drive the Reveal SC500 FX Wave or SC400r4G Support disk is in) Select "OPTI Crystal SEMI WAV Audio" to install WAV audio support. Select "OPTI OPL3 MIDI" to install MIDI support. Select "Crystal SEMI Windows Audio" to install WINOS2 WAV support. ** Windows audio should not be installed over existing ** ** WINDOWS audio support. This WINOS2 install driver ** ** works in both WINOS2 and Windows ** The Multimedia installation program adds the following statements to your CONFIG.SYS file. These statements are displayed as follows: BASEDEV= MAD16.ADD MODE:WSS BASE:604 WSSIRQ:7 WSSDMA:0 SBIRQ:7 SBDMA:1 CDTYPE:S CDBASE:320 CDIRQ:9 JOYSTICK:1 **NOTE - above BASEDEV line MUST immediatly precede the LIBPATH line ** DEVICE=C:\MMOS2\CSBSAUD.SYS N:CSAUD1$ DEVICE=C:\MMOS2\VCSBSAUD.SYS CSAUD1$ DEVICE=C:\MMOS2\VMAD16.SYS CSAUD1$ DEVICE=C:\MMOS2\TIMER0.SYS DEVICE=C:\MMOS2\OPL3.SYS /P:388 /N:OPL31$ Reveal SC500 FX Wave or SC400r4G Audio for WINDOWS and WINOS2 --------------------------------------------------- Any WINDOWS Audio support must be removed before installing the Reveal WIndows Audio for WINDOWS and WINOS2. To do this backup the SYSTEM.INI and remove all audio references. OS/2 WARP Installation from CD ROM connected to Reveal Audio Card ------------------------------------------------------------------ To install OS/2 WARP from a CD player connected to a Reveal SC500 FX Wave or SC400r4G Audio card, the MAD16.ADD file must be added to the OS/2 CD Install Disk 1 manually. Make a diskcopy of the second installation diskette and edit the config.sys file on it by adding the following line. Don't forget to copy the MAD16.ADD file to the modified diskette. BASEDEV=MAD16.ADD line also needs to be added to the CONFIG.SYS statement. 1) Copy MAD16.ADD to OS/2 WARP CD Installation Disk 1 2) EDIT config.sys to add the following line immediatly after the LIBPATH= statement: BASEDEV=MAD16.ADD CDTYPE:X CDBASE:XXX CDIRQ:X CDTYPE:S, P, M, I S - SONY CDU-31A/33A P - PANASONIC CR-522/523 CR-562/563 M - MITSUMI FX001/FX001D I - Generic IDE (DEFAULT) CDBASE: None, 320, 330, 340, 360 (default based on CDTYPE) Sony31A - 320, 330, 340, 360 (default 320) Panasonic - 330, 340 (default 330) Mitsumi - 320, 340 (default, 320) IDE - 170 (fixed) CD-ROM device drivers accept "/P:xxx" to specify a base port CDIRQ: None, 3, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11 (default based on CDTYPE) Sony31A, Mitsumi (All above choices are valid) Panasonic - None (polled device, no interrupts) IDE - 15 (fixed) CD-ROM device drivers accept "/I:x" to specify an interrupt. 3) Install OS/2 Warp (be sure to install multimedia software support) ** The Reveal Audio card is detected by OS/2 install as an SB Pro - Remove this by clicking on Multimedia from the System Configuration menu and select remove from the Device Selections and Settings menu ** 4) Follow the Reveal Audio Installation Settings above **NOTE** The CD ROM device drivers for PANASONIC CR 562/563 and IDE cdrom drives that ship with OS/2 WARP for Windows, do not work when used off a sound card. The drivers that ship with OS/2 WARP "FullPack" fix this problem, they are included on this diskette in a CDROM subdirectory. NOTE: PANASONIC SBCD2.ADD REQUIRES "/P:XXX" FOR PORT ADDRESS IN THE CONFIG.SYS Add this parameter to the end of the existing line in the config.sys Generally, the default settings selected by the installation program will operate the sound card properly. However; should you have special considerations, here are the settings you can modify manually. MAD16.ADD --------- The Options to MAD16.ADD are: MODE: wss, sb (default Windows Sound System) BASE: 220, 240 (for Sound Blaster mode, default 220) 530, E80, F40, 604 (for Windows Sound System mode, default 530) Choosing 530 or E80 for WSS gives 220 for Sound Blaster. Choosing 604 or F40 for WSS gives 240 for Sound Blaster. E80 and F40 are valid only with version 929 of the OPTi part. CDTYPE: None, Sony31A, Panasonic, Mitsumi, IDE (default None) One character is adequate (e.g. CDTYPE:S) CDBASE: None, 320, 330, 340, 360 (default based on CDTYPE) Sony31A - 320, 330, 340, 360 (default 320) Panasonic - 330, 340 (default 330) Mitsumi - 320, 340 (default, 320) IDE - 170 (fixed) CD-ROM device drivers accept "P:xxx" to specify a base port CDIRQ: None, 3, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11 (default based on CDTYPE) Sony31A, Mitsumi (All above choices are valid) Panasonic - None (polled device, no interrupts) IDE - 15 (fixed) CD-ROM device drivers accept "I:x" to specify an interrupt. SBIRQ: 5, 7, 10, 11 (default 7) SBDMA: 1, 2, 3 (default 1) WSSIRQ: 7, 9, 10, 11 WSSDMA: 0, 1, 3 (default 1, avoid 0) NOTE: The WSS IRQ and DMA are specified here, but can be reset by the audio PDD when it loads. Optimally, the audio PDD will query MAD16.add to learn of the device settings. As of this writing, this communication does not exist. JOYSTICK: 0, 1 (default 1, joystick enabled) Using Audio in DOS and Win-OS/2 Sessions ---------------------------------------- To improve audio performance in WINOS2, the following setting modifications may be necessary. These changes can be made from the settings folder of the WINOS2 application. AUDIO_ADAPTER_SHARING Required HW_TIMER On IDLE_SENSITIVITY 100 INT_DURING_IO On VIDEO_RETRACE_EMULATION Off Audio Concurrency Issues - OS/2, DOS, Win-OS/2 ---------------------------------------------- OS/2 MMPM/2 is designed such that, when an application is running in the foreground (has focus), then that application takes priority over others running in the background. Background applications are put on hold until they are placed in the foreground (have focus). When you have a single audio device, it is not possible for two programs (device drivers) to use the device at the same time. For example, if one application has the device configured for audio playback, and a second application configures the device for audio record, the application with the focus takes priority and the application in the background is placed on hold. This situation also exists for sampling rate and sample size configuration. DOS applications do not participate in MMPM/2 resource management. When DOS and Win-OS/2 sessions use the audio device, all other programs are unable to access the audio device. Audio device drivers for Windows, installed under Win-OS/2, attempt to use the audio device in all Windows sessions. For Win-OS/2 sessions which do not use the audio device, you can set the AUDIO_ADAPTER_SHARING property to "None". This prevents the session from accessing the audio device, and enables the device to be used by other applications. ------------------- The End --------------------
