Setting up DB2 Connect

Before you can use DB2 Connect, you must do the following:

  1. Install DB2 Connect, and configure the DRDA server and workstation communications, as described in either DB2 Connect Personal Edition Quick Beginnings, or DB2 Connect Enterprise Edition Quick Beginnings.

  2. Update the database directories as described in Chapter 3. "Updating Database Directories". On OS/2, Windows 95, or Windows NT this can be done using the DB2 Universal Database Client Configuration Assistant, and on Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroups 3.11 this can be done using the Data Sources Setup dialog. On all other platforms the database directories must be updated using the DB2 Command Line Processor (CLP). Both approaches are described in DB2 Connect Personal Edition Quick Beginnings, and DB2 Connect Enterprise Edition Quick Beginnings.

  3. Bind the DB2 Connect utilities to each DRDA server database management system, as described in Chapter 4. "Binding Applications and Utilities". This task can also be performed using the DB2 Universal Database Client Configuration Assistant or the Data Sources Setup dialog where provided.
