Quick Beginnings

Before You Begin

Before you begin installing DB2 products using the DB2 Installer, you need to gather the following information:

Where is the CD-ROM mount point?
You need to mount the CD-ROM before you can install the DB2 product. To mount the CD-ROM, you must know where the mount point is. For example, the CD-ROM mount point can be /cdrom.
Note:On some UNIX operating systems, the CD-ROM is automatically mounted.

How much disk space does my operating system require for all selected products?
See "Estimating Fixed Disk Requirements" and "Disk Requirements Table" to find out how much disk space is required for selected products and how to estimate disk space requirements.

How do I assign a group name and user name for a DB2 instance?
A separate user name must be used for each DB2 Instance. We recommend that a new group be created which should be used as a primary group for the DB2 instance user.

How do I assign a group name and user name for the Administration Server?
You need a dedicated group name and user name for the Administration Server. For security reasons, we recommend that you do not use the DB2 Instance user name and group name for the Administration Server.

Installation Steps

To install the DB2 products on UNIX systems, perform the following steps:

  1. Identify and record parameter values.

  2. Update kernel configuration parameters. (This step is not required on AIX.)

  3. Mount the CD-ROM.

  4. Install DB2 products.
