Starting and Stopping a DB2 Server Instance

You must start a DB2 server instance before you can perform the following tasks:

Connect to a database on the instance.
Precompile an application.
Bind a package to a database.
Use DB2 Connect Enterprise Edition.

To start a database instance:

Log in as the instance owner.
Set up the instance owner environment by executing the db2profile or db2cshrc file for the DB2 Instance as follows:
```
   . INSTHOME/sqllib/db2profile     (in Bourne or Korn shell)
   source INSTHOME/sqllib/db2cshrc  (in C shell)
```
where INSTHOME is the home directory of the DB2 instance.
Start the DB2 database manager by entering the db2start command from a command line.

To stop a database instance:

Log in as the instance owner.
Set up the instance owner environment by executing the db2profile or db2cshrc file for the DB2 Instance as follows:
```
   . INSTHOME/sqllib/db2profile     (in Bourne or Korn shell)
   source INSTHOME/sqllib/db2cshrc  (in C shell)
```
where INSTHOME is the home directory of the DB2 instance.
Stop the DB2 database manager by entering the db2stop command from a command line.
