For: ICA DOS Client Replaces: All versions prior to January 2001 Date: January 2001 Language supported: English (US) Description ----------- This 32-bit version of the Citrix ICA Client for DOS provides all the capabilities of the original 16-bit ICA Client for DOS, while requiring less conventional memory. The client program uses 32-bit code working with extended memory through the use of DOS Protected Mode Interface (DPMI) technology. DPMI support is provided by the Rational Systems, Inc. DOS/4GW DOS Extender, Run-time Version 1.97. Where to Find Documentation ---------------------------- This document contains last-minute information about the ICA DOS Client. For more information about the ICA DOS Client, see the Citrix ICA Client Administrator's Guide for the ICA DOS Client, available in an Adobe Portable Document format (PDF) file (icados.pdf). The Administrator's Guide is in the \DOC directory on the Citrix ICA Client CD. Use the Adobe Acrobat Reader or Exchange program to view PDF files. You can download Acrobat Reader for free from Adobe's Web site at http:/www.adobe.com. Installation Instructions for the ICA DOS Client ------------------------------------------------- To install the ICA DOS Client, follow the instructions in the Citrix ICA DOS Client Administrator's Guide. System Requirements ------------------- This version of the Citrix ICA Client for DOS requires: - An Intel 386 or later processor (or compatible processor from another vendor) to support the DPMI technology - At least 2MB RAM (sufficient memory for the normal requirements of a minimally configured DOS system and the client with extended memory) File Names ------------ The file names are identical to those of the 16-bit version of the ICA DOS Client, with the following exceptions: - WFENG.DDL is embedded in wfclient.exe - DOS4GW.EXE, the DOS extender executable, is a new file. Limitations and Known Issues ---------------------------- The client is functionally equivalent to the 16-bit version of the DOS Client (Build 581) with the following differences and restrictions: 1. Support for the Microsoft LAN Manager 2.1 DOS TCP/IP Stack and the Novell LAN Workplace for DOS TCP/IP Stack is now provided by a Virtual Socket Library TSR. The 32-bit DOS Client automatically loads the appropriate VSL component prior to starting the network connection. 2. The DOS conventional memory requirements are greatly relaxed. Approximately 100K of conventional memory is required to run wfclient.exe. Additional memory in the form of extended memory is also required. 3. The VSL implementation now enumerates servers and resolves server names. 4. The client displays an ICA splash screen when establishing connections. 5. Direct asynchronous serial connections from client to server may not work reliably at high baud rates on slower 386 and 486 machines with 8250 communications controller chips. For optimum performance, run the client on a machine configured without himem.sys and emm386.exe in config.sys. For direct asynchronous serial connections, Citrix recommends a 16550 chip, such as the 16550AFN. 6. Commonly-used graphical objects such as icons are stored in a local disk cache on the client computer, increasing performance for bandwidth-limited connections.
