======================================================================= AU8820 OS/2 Driver README.TXT ======================================================================= This is the Vortex AU8820 OS/2 driver version 1.00. This driver has very limited feature support and will only run in native OS/2. There are no plans to support Win OS/2. CONTENTS I. Overview A. OS/2 system requirements B. Known Limitations II. Quick start III. Software Installation IV. Legacy audio compatibility A. Checking your hardware configuration B. Changing the hardware configuration C. DOS Boxes D. Real-mode DOS E. Compatibility List ======================================================================= I. Overview ======================================================================= A. OS/2 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS ==================================== * 100mhz Pentium-compatible CPU * 16MB DRAM (the Vortex hardware wavetable engine uses a native 4MB sample set. Samples are stored on disk and swapped to RAM as required. Typical DRAM footprint is <2MB. * 15MB hard disk space * CD-ROM drive * Good-quality speakers or headphones and connecting cables. * Joystick and MIDI keyboard (optional). B. Known Limitations ===================== 1. Clock01.sys & Clock02.sys in Warp 4 without any fixpacks applied interfere with wavetable MIDI playback. Workaround: Install new fixpacks 2. MMPM/2 MIDI player can't use the MPU for midi playback (it always defaults to WT). Does not happen in Warp 3 and play.cmd works fine. This appears to be a bug in the MPPM midi player. The same thing happens with other audio devices. 3. Unable to uninstall with minstall in Warp 3. This also happens with other audio devices. 4. End of (windows) AVI's intermittently hangs -> AnPoCodec problem this happens with other audio devices. 5. Master volume applet in Multimedia folder only works when a multimedia stream exists. Otherwise master volume commands are ignored. 6. WarpMix gets out of sync when other applications change the volume/gain/mute and recording source selections while it's running. 7. To use the 2nd midi device in the Midi player, choose Midi devices -> MIDI 2 in the View menu. ======================================================================= II. Software Installation ======================================================================= A. DRIVER INSTALLATION ====================== 1. Uninstall Aureal drivers if present and reboot (Delete startup.cmd or remove asp4init.exe) 2. Run minstall from that driver directory 3. Install the drivers that show up in the window (Aureal, Wavetable, & MPU 401) 4. Reboot B. UNINSTALLING THE DRIVERS ============================ 1. Run uninstal.cmd from the original distribution directory (which removes AurDmn from the startup folder and starts minstall) 2. Select all drivers in the minstall window 3. When asked, select Aureal Vortex cards and press OK 4. After minstall finishes, reboot. For Technical Support please contact your board manufacturer. ======================================================================= Aureal, A3D, A3D-I, A3D-Interactive, and the Aureal logo are trademarks and Vortex is a registered trademark of Aureal Semiconductor Inc.
