Paths page (Project Properties dialog box)

The Paths page of the Project Properties dialog box sets the following options:

See also: "How JBuilder constructs Paths" and "Where are my files" in "Creating and managing projects" in Building Applications with JBuilder

To set these options for all new projects, choose Project|Default Project Properties.

JDK

This is a feature of JBuilder Professional and Enterprise.

Sets the version of the Java Development Kit (JDK) to use when compiling and running your project. JBuilder can compile and run against all Sun JDKs and many others.

Note: Depending on the features used in your application, there may be restrictions on which JDK you can use. For example, for CORBA applications, you must use JDK 1.1.6 or later.

Click the ellipsis button to display the Select A JDK dialog box where you change the selected JDK and add new ones.

Output Path

The path in which the compiler places .class files. There can only be one output path per project.

The default path is located in your home directory of your operating system installation directory. The default path in the Default Project Properties is: /home/username/jbproject/classes For a specific project, the path then becomes: /home/username/jbproject/project_name/classes

Click the ellipsis button to display the Select Directory dialog box, where you can change the path.

Backup Path

The path in which the backup files are saved.

The default path is located in your home directory of your operating system installation directory. The default path for source files in the Default Project Properties is: /home/username/jbproject/bak For a specific project, the path becomes: /home/username/jbproject/project_name/bak Note: JSP files, HTML files, and some other text files are not treated as source files. These files are backed up in their original directories. However, you can include these backups in the backup directory of your project instead. To do so,

  1. Select Project|Project Properties and look at the Paths page.
  2. Select the Source page inside the Paths page.
  3. Click Add in the Source page. This brings up the Select One Or More Directories dialog box.
  4. Browse to the project backup directory, select it, and click OK.

There are three possible colors for libraries listed:

The color use is explained in the following table.

Colors in library lists

Color Description Troubleshooting
Black The library is defined correctly.
Red The library definition is missing. This typically means the project refers to a library that is not yet defined. It can also mean the library has been defined without any paths.
Gray Use of this library requires an upgrade. You need to upgrade your edition of JBuilder in order to use this library. For example, if you have JBuilder Foundation, use of the dbSwing library requires that you upgrade to either JBuilder Professional or Enterprise.
