Chapter 26. Installing DB2 Clients

Use the instructions in this section to perform an interactive installation of a DB2 client. You can also run unattended installations of DB2 products to remote target machines running OS/2, Windows 3.x, Windows 95, or Windows NT.

note

Go to the section that gives instructions for the DB2 client that you want to install.

Clients on a LAN that will connect to a DB2 Connect or DB2 Universal Database must have the DB2 Client Application Enabler or the DB2 Software Developer's Kit installed.

note

The DB2 Client Application Enabler is installed with any DB2 Version 5 product. If a DB2 Version 5 product currently exists on this workstation, the DB2 Client Application Enabler component has already been installed, and there is no need to install a DB2 Client Application Enabler. To configure your client to access remote servers, go to Chapter 32. "Configuring Client to DB2 Connect Server Communications Using the CCA".

(The DB2 SDK must be ordered separately from DB2 Connect.)

DB2 Client Application Enablers and DB2 SDKs are available for the following operating systems: AIX, DOS, HP-UX, Macintosh, OS/2, SCO OpenServer, Silicon Graphics IRIX, SINIX, Solaris, Windows 3.1x, Windows 95, and Windows NT.

You may install DB2 Client Application Enablers on any number of workstations; there are no licensing restrictions for installation. DB2 Enterprise Edition allows an unlimited number of user to connect to the server, DB2 Workgroup has use-based entitlement restrictions for the number of users that can connect to the server.

* Figure hint not displayed.

To obtain DB2 Client Application Enablers for all clients, including DOS, connect to the IBM Web site (http://www.software.ibm.com), search for the IBM Database 2 Client Application Enabler Pack, and follow the instructions provided.
