This book uses industry standard terminology for database, copying, and LAN concepts, except where noted otherwise. A comprehensive glossary is located in the DB2 Universal Database Glossary. The following terms represent concepts specific to IBM Replication:
Refers to the propagation of data from source tables to target tables, including one-way copying, or circular copying.
The database where the source data is stored (and where the Capture program is located and executes if the database is DB2 for Windows NT, MVS, OS/400, VSE, VM, OS/2, AIX, Solaris, and HP-UX). Source server is synonymous with source.
The database where the target copy of the data is stored and where the Apply program executes. Target server is synonymous with target.
The database where the subscription definitions are located. The control server can be collocated at either the source or target server.
All data is copied from the source table to the target table.
Only changed data is copied from the source table to the target table.
Source tables in a replication scenario.
Target tables and control information in a replication scenario. Also known as a subscription set.
Replication in which the replication source or the target table can be updated and the changes replicated to all related tables.
Unless otherwise noted, the following components are referred to by the
