Chapter 3. Getting Started

This chapter presents a high-level overview and practical application of the following steps required to set up a replication environment:

  1. Plan for a replication scenario at the system level and application level as described in Chapter 5. "System Planning" and Chapter 6. "Application Planning".

  2. Define a replication source as described in Chapter 8. "Working with Replication Sources".

  3. Define a replication subscription as described in Chapter 9. "Working with Replication Targets".

  4. Configure the Capture and Apply programs. See the Capture and Apply chapter for your particular platform for configuration information.

  5. Start the Capture program as described in the Capture and Apply chapter for your particular platform.

  6. Start the Apply program as described in the Capture and Apply chapter for your particular platform.

You do not need to refer to the detailed information referenced in these steps to perform the scenario in this chapter. The terms you will encounter, such as Apply qualifier, are explained in Chapter 2. "Introduction to IBM Replication: Tools and Concepts" and in the glossary.
